EVA RULES and REGULATIONS

Teams

  1. The Association shall register teams for play in a particular league (men’s, women’s, co-ed).

  2. Registration of teams shall occur at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) prior to the start of the season. The League Executive Director (LED) shall be responsible for registering teams.

  3. Each team shall have a roster of players registered for that team with a minimum of six players and a maximum of 15 players.

  4. Volleyball Clubs can register as regular teams; however, club registrations are not permitted.

  5. Final payment for registration shall be midnight of the date stipulated by the league.

  6. Co-ed teams must have a minimum of three female players on the court at all times.

Rules & Regulations

  1. When required, Games shall be officiated by an accredited E.V.O.A. official or E.V.A. player using the latest edition of the Volleyball Canada Rulebook.

  2. EVA play uses the latest edition of the Volleyball Canada Rulebook with the following exceptions:

    1. Women’s and Men’s Leagues - Team may field 5 players and play a “ghost player” which rotates as if there was a full team. Teams not fielding five players shall default the game and may be fined.

    2. Coed League - Team may field 5 players and play a “ghost player” which rotates as if there was a full team - ghost may only replace a male player. There must be not less than 3 female players on the court. Teams not fielding five players shall default the game and may be fined.

    3. Games are 3 sets

      1. Set 1 - Cap at 25

      2. Set 2 - Cap at 25

      3. Set 3 - Cap at 15

  3. All teams shall submit their team scores using the TeamLinkt app or E.V.A. website.

  4. Coed shall use substitution rules as per the Volleyball Canada rulebook.

  5. All teams must send at least one representative to any scheduled rules clinic.

  6. In the event of a team’s expulsion from the league, there will be no reimbursement of fees.

  7. All teams must be represented at the E.V.A. called meetings.

  8. Uniforms are not required for play.

  9. Teams must respect the facility rules, property, and staff while using the gyms.

  10. Any member has the right to inspect the Association’s books and records.

  11. EC decisions regarding protests, disciplinary actions, or fines shall be final.

  12. A Player must play a minimum of 4 weeks of ladder play to qualify for round-robin and playoff.

  13. During round-robin play, and playoff matches will follow the Volleyball Canada rulebook.

  14. Each night, teams are responsible for gym cleanliness.

  15. During round-robin play, each team must submit their own results for each night of play on the E.V.A website/TeamLinkt app.

Fines & Discipline

  1. Teams using an ineligible player shall default games and be fined $10.00 per game.

  2. If a team cannot field six properly dressed players within five (5) minutes of its scheduled game time, the first game shall be defaulted & that team fined $10.00.  If the team is not there within fifteen (15) minutes of its scheduled time, the second game is defaulted & that team fined $10.00.  If the team is not there within thirty (30) minutes of its scheduled game time, it will default the third game & fined $10.00.  It is the responsibility of the officiating team or officials to start the game on time.  If the first match is late, the second match must start at its designated time. (e.g. 7:00 Scheduled Game start time.  First game defaulted at 7:05, second game defaulted at 7:15, third game defaulted at 7:30)

  3. Teams not sending a representative to the Annual Year-end Meeting forfeit their Default Deposit.

  4. Defaults are defined in the Volleyball Canada Rulebook.

  5. Teams previously in the league must pre-register with a deposit.

  6. New teams must pay a deposit fee and submit a contact name.

  7. A default deposit of $100.00 is applied to league fees.

    1. First default without contact = $50

    2. Second without contact = $50

    3. Third time without contact = you are removed from the preregistration list

    4. Team will be able to top-up their “default charge”

    5. Missing a meeting = $50. Why - because this creates extra work for the league. Each team needs  representation at the meeting for your team.

  8. A team that defaults two nights or has 12 game defaults a season may be blacklisted.

  9. Blacklisted teams must pay double the defaults and cannot have a deposit less than $100.00.

  10. Blacklisted teams can be reinstated after a year without two defaults.

  11. Violations such as possession of liquor, damage, and abuse could result in expulsion.

  12. Players attacking officials will be suspended pending further review.

  13. Ejected players/coaches receive an automatic suspension for a determined time.

  14. LED investigates and recommends fines/expulsions for unsportsmanlike behaviour.

  15. Spectator actions are the team's responsibility and may lead to disciplinary actions.

Protests

  1. Teams must file a protest before the game in writing to the LED and/or referee (if one is present)

  2. Protests against referee decisions must be in writing within 48 hours and given to the LED.

  3. Protests against referee performance or judgment must be reported to the LED.

  4. Appeals of LED decisions must be in writing within 48 hours to the EC for review.
